SUBMISSIONS

We recognize that haiku is now a worldwide phenomenon: the internet has enabled poets from different hemispheres to publish their works simultaneously and we have assembled a global team of editors in response to this perceived seasonal problem.

In the interest of fairness to our readership, issues of Notes From the Gean will not, therefore, be tailored to any particular season nor have a culture bias but rather our focus will be on the quality of the work.

We welcome your submissions of up to 10 original haiku and/or senryu.
Submissions of up to 10 original tanka.
Up to 10 Haiga (modern or traditional) will be considered.
Up to 3 Haibun/Tanka Prose, though only one will be accepted each issue.
We will accept original cartoons related to the genre.

Renga and sequences will not be considered at this time.

All poems/artwork submitted to Notes From the Gean must be unpublished, either in print or electronically, and not under consideration elsewhere. Works that have been uploaded to sharing networks or blogs will be deemed as published and those that are work-shopped on closed forums will be considered as unpublished.

Haiga images must be JPEG/JPG format with a maximum height/width of 750 pixels including any decorative borders. Include your signature as part of the artwork itself. Please make sure the text within the graphics is readable, and keep in mind that we may re-size images when necessary to fit our format. If a haiga is a collaboration, both parties must give permission to publish and include name and contact information.

Haibun can be any combination of prose and haiku-genre poem(s) and are not restricted to travel pieces.

Place all haiku, tanka and haibun submissions within the body of your email.
Attachments will be accepted for haiga (jpg) and haibun (word file) only. Please do not send haiku or tanka by attachment.

Only send name and country of residence with your submissions; no biographical sketches please, unless requested.

Gean Tree Press reserves first serial rights.

Authors are free to republish after 30 days provided the new publication does not require first serial rights.

Notes From the Gean should be noted as place of first publication.
